I am not normally a big fan of the spinoff scent. You know how this happens. One scent sells like gangbusters so the manufacturer introduces some sub-scents that are kinda-sorta like the original but "updated" or "more youthful" or some other spin. They usually wind up selling in similar-looking bottles with similar-sounding names.
Now I'm all for introducing more perfume into the world. As far as I'm concerned, we could add hundreds more to the fragrance list at Sephora, and I'd be thrilled. My main objection is that if you're going to create a new scent, give it its own name and its own identity.
Marketing people probably recommend the spinoff scent, because if a primary brand does well, you automatically have a bunch of folks who will at least give the spinoff a fair shake. I guess it's leveraging brand awareness. Excuse me while I throw up.
See, I wonder if spinoffs--and I'm not talking about this particular one by any means--really need that leg-up on the competition? Would this scent be as appreciated if it had been marketed as "Delightful" and given a unique identity in the Calvin Klein coffret? I also wonder if there is any backlash. Maybe anti-Eternity people will never give this scent a try because they don't care for the primary brand.
OK, I'll get down off my soap box now and talk about the perfume. Like Eternity, Eternity Moment is a big fat floral. I say fat in the most flattering way. I mean that it's big, it's well proportioned, and it's voluptuous. It's fruitier than Eternity, at least to my way of smelling things, and I think that gives it a nice update. But it's not one of those, "I just threw a bottle of Sprite on me" kind of fruit scents. It's subtle. Try to sniff out the lychees, guava, and pomegranate. (I know; I don't know what lychees smell like, either.)
Eternity Moment has some depth to it, some texture, but without getting into some of that musky or Oriental darkness that some heavier scents do. It's light, yet complex, which is a mixture that not a lot of perfumers do well.
If you're looking for something light, likable, and very modern--without being too over the edge (like eau-de-spilled-Margarita)--this has got to be it. I am always partial to the classics, but in this case, I think I actually like Eternity Moment better than Eternity.
