"I'll pass somebody, smell their perfume, and it will remind me of my very first date. I smell it, and I'm back in school!"

Perfume Bio-Clips

Coco Chanel told her life story, in snippets, many times and in many ways. These snippets, if put together, do not all match. However, sometimes the re-telling was even better than the original story.

She launched her world-famous Chanel No. 5 on May 5 and she declared that it was named for five, which was her lucky number.

That's probably true, at least the part about it being her lucky number because there was probably never a better-received perfume in the world than No. 5.

It was created by the celebrated perfumist Ernst Breaux who supposedly created a variety of fragrances for her to pick from. Breaux, who was a nose by trade and not a poet, named them with numbers. Ms. Chanel selected the fragrance he had labeled simply No. 5. She kept the name.

The product launch on May 5 (5/5) was serendipity. A really great story like this always benefits from a bit of serendipity.

Like much of what Chanel told us about herself, it was not so much literally true as figuratively true, and the more she told it, the truer it seemed to become.

About Us

ThePerfume-Reporter is published by Redd Publishing, a small woman-owned business conveniently located in the fast food district of a small town in Texas. We're about an hour from downtown Houston, which is close enough for our kind of work, and we live and work in the kind of place where everybody knows everybody else.

Redd Publishing publishes a variety of other websites and has many other interests so if you'd like to get on our Ueber-List, that is, the master list for future roll-outs on completely different topics, use the form to the right. Yes, you have to use a form.

We hate spam, probably more than you do, because being in this business we get so much of it there oughta be a law. Oh, I guess there is. It's the canned spam law and we support it. We wish you could put spammers in jail. Anyway, if you sign up for anything with us or anything done by Redd Publishing we will never never spam you, nor we will sell, trade, disclose, give away, or otherwise let any other third parties get hold of your e-mail address or other private information. If you hear from us, it's because you asked us to send you something or we consider you one of our perfume buds and just want to keep you informed.

If you ever want to unsubscribe to anything we have, you can unsubscribe the next time you get it (you'll see a link) or you can e-mail us right now. We want you to be happy, baby. E-mail us at theperfume-reporter@reddpublishing.com.

In compliance with the canned spam act, we are providing our physical address. This is a real business with a real brick-and-mortar address.

New manufacturing techniques are making perfume more affordable and more sophisticated. Scents are available today that were literally impossible to create in the era of Marie Antoinette. In fact, we can do things today we could not do in the era of Coco Chanel!
